Hey ya’ll!
I’m trying to track down some information on two bird dogs that I think served in the USMC.
S/N’s – 21487 and 22688
Does anyone know of a resource to track this information down?
Have a look in “The Loveable One-Niner” as there’s a pretty good listing of SN’s and where the planes went. Also check on this website in the members section, you may find some photos of those birds. Good luck.
Hi! My name is Emma Spencer and I’m writing here on behalf of my grandfather, Robert Horning. He was an L-19 and Bell 47D pilot in Korea from 1951-1954 with the Army Corps of Engineers. I’m wondering if anyone else in this community has ties to the Bird Dog pilots/maintainers in Korea during this time that I could connect him with. We’re going to try to get to Nashville this year for Quad-A and hoping to get him in touch with the community ahead of our trip!

I am a researcher and I am trying to find out details of Benchmark 15.
I believe Benchmark 15 went down over Hue 22 February 1968
I know that the Observer was a MARINE, CPT Bob Laramy, but I cannot find any details about the name of the pilot
who I believe was a US Army RLO or Warrant.
Can you help me?
Kindly,

I served as a crew chief on the Birddogs in Vietnam in 70-71 with the 199th RAC (Swampfoxes) and the 221st RAC (Shotguns). I’d like to hear from anyone who was there at that time. Not limited to that. I have contacted 2 that was in my section in the last couple of months. I was in Can Tho and Vihn Long. Was assigned to the MACV team 56. My pilot was a very young WO-1 named Terry Johnson. Thanks.

I have been trying to find out the history of a Bird Dog Pilot.
12Oct 1967 I was a CC with the 173rd AHC. A routine flight heading back to Lai Khe.
My AC screamed into my helmet that a bird dog had crashed outside the port side of our Huey.
He dropped down to a hover and I exited the craft. Reaching the downed craft I observed heavy
the damage it had gone in nose first wheels collapsed prop dug into the ground and the wing had
become separated flipped up and shattered the windscreen.I observed the Pilot in bad shape the
plexiglass had bent inward and severely cut the left side of his face his legs were crushed and I think
broken. I stood on the engine cowling dragged him up and out put him on my shoulder and carried to
the Huey that was still hovering a few yards away and threw him into the ship.
We pulled pitch and headed for Lai Khe I did the best I could to stop the bleeding on his facial injuries
and tied both his legs together to try and stop further damage. We dropped him off at the Lia Khe Field
Hospital.
I remember the Doctor saying that he was in bad shape but we had gotten him there on time.
It’s just that every once in a while he comes to my mind,I did a second tour and am still doing good
I think I just need to know he had a good life. Any help would give me some sense of what I did that day.

I am looking for anyone who may have had my father Samuel H Schneider as their flight instructor, probably from 1956 to ca. 1970, at Ft. Rucker or Ft. Stewart. I am his son, and I am trying to write a biography of his amazing life. I would like to speak to his former students. I know he was a strict disciplinarian, but I would like to hear some stories and possibly get a few photos. Please email me so that we can set up a time to talk. Thank you.

As a member you can search the Historic photos for any Unit numbers or names. May have some in the thousands of photos we have scanned in.
Any luck in your search?
Does any one have any information about Cpt Lynn Huddleston? He was missing in action while flying for the 74th. Also any pictures of the Aloft L-19’s flown in Viet Nam in l968. Thanks Steve Sachs
